Growthpoint invests in university's solar car

CAPE TOWN - Growthpoint has announced that it will be sponsoring the North-West University solar car challenge team due to participate in the Bridgestone World Solar Challenge in Australia from 8-15 October 2017.

The team has already participated in world's big solar car races. Its achievements include taking 11th place in an overall field of 29, leaving behind teams from renown universities such as Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Cambridge.

Head of Sustainability at Growthpoint, Werner van Antwerpen says sponsoring the NWU team is a great platform for them to show their commitment to sustainability and innovation, at the same grooming future leaders in the industry.

"We wish the NWU Solar team everything of the best for the upcoming Bridgestone World Solar Challenge. True to the name of their car and its power source, we believe that they are stars who will continue to shine in this global challenge," Van Antwerpen added.

According to the company statement, Growthpoint jointly with the Green Building Council of South Africa runs the Greenovate Awards programme, which sets university students of the built environment and engineering on a quest to find more sustainable ways of living.
