New York - Oil services company Halliburton said Monday it would pay a $1.1 billion (R11.8 billion) settlement over its role in the 2010 Gulf of Mexico oil rig blowout that led to the United States' worst-ever oil spill.

Halliburton said the money would be paid to go the Gulf fishing industry and other victims of the Deepwater Horizon disaster, including some claims made in suits against oil giant BP. - Sapa-AFP
