JOHANNESBURG - Iron ore producer Kumba said on Tuesday it continued to improve on safety and delivered a solid operating performance, while maintaining production and sales volumes in line with guidance during the third quarter ended September 30.

It said production volumes were reduced by nine percent to 10.5 Mt as planned, to offset elevated stock levels arising from rail constraints in the first half of the year.

Export sales decreased by 10 percent to 9.7 Mt as a result of scheduled refurbishment by state-owned logistics company Transnet.

"Safe production ensured Kumba remained fatality free and continued to improve on multiple safety metrics," the iron ore producer said.
