Labour unrest in the country last year had knocked demand for cement, causing sales for the third quarter to decline by 3.8 percent year on year after strong growth of 7 percent in the second quarter, Azar Jammine, the chief economist at Econometrix, said yesterday. Jammine said cement demand had been dampened by the strike activity that began at Marikana in August and spread. – Nompumelelo Magwaza.
