JOHANNESBURG - Retail group Massmart said on Monday higher sales, combined with improved performances in both Massdiscounters and Masscash, had resulted in a better than forecast financial result for the six months to June.

In said its latest sales update on July 19 showed that sales trends had lifted slightly subsequent to the release date of its previous sales update on May 24.

Headline earnings per share for the half year were now likely to fall by between 16 and 26 percent to 124.7 cents to 141.5 cents, having been projected to slide 36 to 46 percent in May.
