DURBAN - The MTN Group has announced that Mcebisi Jonas Bajabulile Tshabalala and will join the company's board as Independent Non-Executive Directors from June 1st, 2018.

Tshabalala is currently Executive Director of the consulting and investment holding firm, Barbican Advisory Group while Jonas was the former Deputy Finance Minister who served under both Nhlanhla Nene and Pravin Gordhan. 

The Chairman of the MTN Group Phuthuma Nhleko said "I wish to extend a warm welcome to Swazi and Mcebisi. We are all excited to have them onboard. As we continue to steer our business into a new trajectory of execution excellence".

Nhleko added that he believes that the arrival of Jonas and Tshabalala will further enrich the diversity and experience of the Board. 

A statement from the company said that both Tshabalala and Jonas bring an extensive board and senior management experience to their new roles, having served on numerous boards in the private and public sectors over many years. 

Tshabalala has more than 20 years professional experience in finance, risk management, treasury and general management. She has worked in both the private sector as well as State Owned Companies like Transnet.

Jonas previously held the title of Chairperson and Non-Executive Director of the Public Investment Corporation and is currently one of four Presidential Investment Envoys appointed by President Cyril Ramaphosa to attract investment.
