MOTOR industry legend Brand Pretorius has been appointed chairman of the board of listed automotive and component manufacturer and distributor Metair. Pretorius is an independent non-executive director of Metair. He will assume chairmanship of the company from July 1. His appointment follows a decision by current chairman Mpueleng Pooe to step down to pursue his career with Royal Bafokeng Platinum. Pooe is Royal Bafokeng’s executive for corporate affairs. Metair said Pretorius had a wealth of experience from a distinguished career as a chief executive in the motor industry. Pretorius was chief executive of motor dealership group McCarthy. He retired from this position and as an executive director of Bidvest in 2011. He is now a non-executive director on the boards of several companies. – Roy Cokayne
