Independent Media lodged a complaint to the Press Council Ombudsman against the Sunday Times over an article it published on May 14, 2017 under the headline “Survé canned editor over Molefe article”.
On June 26, 2017 the Press Ombudsman of the Council published a ruling dismissing the complaint.
Independent Media will apply for leave to appeal the ruling on the basis that the Press Ombudsman erred on various grounds in his ruling, including following unfair procedures and making findings based on unsubstantiated allegations. We strongly disagree with the grounds upon which our complaint was dismissed and believe it should be overturned on appeal.
