Johannesburg - South African Airways (SAA) has retracted its media statement issued on Friday on the suspension of chief commercial officer Sylvain Bosc, saying it had been “issued prematurely”.

“SAA has suspended Mr Bosc as a result of serious allegations relating to an alleged misrepresentation made by him to the board in respect of the Abu Dhabi route and an investigation by ENS Forensics into such allegations,” the airline said in a statement.

“Mr Bosc is yet to receive notification of the disciplinary enquiry and formal complaints arising from such suspension. The decision as to whether Mr Bosc is guilty of such alleged misconduct will be taken by the chairperson of the disciplinary enquiry.

“To the extent that the media release may suggest that Mr Bosc has been found guilty of any misconduct or impropriety it is sincerely regretted and no impairment to Mr Bosc’s identity was sought or intended,” SAA said.

In Friday’s statement, SAA said Bosc was suspended after a tip-off of possible wrongdoing.

SAA said a forensic investigation by ENSafrica into various allegations that were received through the Deloittes Tip-Offs hotline “confirmed that there is substance” to one of the accusations.

The allegation suggested that: “Sylvain doctored the numbers for Abu Dhabi to favour the opening of this route and sold SAA out. He knowingly misrepresented the board by overestimating the figures without substantiation and ignored network specialist advice”.
