Johannesburg - The SA Commercial, Catering and Allied Workers' Union (Saccawu) is to embark on a three-day strike against OK Furnishers and House & Home, the union said on Wednesday.

“Members will embark upon a three-day, protected, limited-duration strike from the 6 (Thursday) to 8 (Saturday) December 2012,” spokesman Mike Abrahams said in a statement.

“As much as 4000 workers (will) join in this strike action across the country.”

Saccawu said hundreds of members marched to OK Furnishers' head office in Johannesburg on November 16, when a memorandum of demands was given to management.

Saccawu had demanded a R4000 basic salary for sales advisers, the scrapping of minimum performance standards, and the payment of commission to carpet estimators on fitting charges and for all sold items.

The union said the company had responded to the memorandum of demands by stating they were “not acceptable”.

After consideration of the response at a meeting on Thursday, Saccawu had decided to embark on a national strike.

Comment from the company could not be immediately obtained. - Sapa
