Tokyo - Toyota Motor Corp said Wednesday that it had become the world's first carmaker to produce more than 10 million vehicles in a year.

The Toyota group, including Daihatsu Motor Co and Hino Motors Ltd, saw its global output grow 2.1 per cent from the previous year to 10.1 million units in 2013.

The group's domestic production climbed 2.9 per cent to 4.3 million units, while its overseas output rose 6.1 per cent to 5.8 million units, Toyota said.

The world's largest carmaker said the group's global sales grew 2.4 per cent to a record 9.9 million in 2013, although its domestic sales dropped 6.4 per cent to 1.59 million.

Toyota expected its global group sales to reach a record 10.3 million units in 2014, which would make it the world's first carmaker to go above 10 million units. - Sapa-dpa
