“We have great expectations from the Russian market as they are well-established and we are ready to offer them something unique and proudly South African. Showcasing at World Food Moscow International Food Exhibition will serve as an indicator on how receptive the market will be to our products. We have a wide range of products from sweet and savoury biscuit, assortments, sandwich creams, wafers and chocolate enrobed products and we trust that it is within this wide range we would find suitable products that will soon reach the Russian market,” says Murillo.

He adds that Continental Biscuits has previously showcased at the ANUGA Food Fair in, Germany and the Gulfood at the United Arab Emirates.  “Our participation in Anuga yielded sales leads and orders. The Gulfoods brought a lot of sales leads especially from Africa. We are now exporting to Mauritius, Seychelles, Palestine and Nigeria as a result of our attendance of these fairs,” says Murillo.

The participation of South African companies at World Food has been made possible by the Department of Trade and Industry (the dti) through its Export Marketing and Investment Assistance (EMIA) scheme with the aim of increasing exports of South African manufactured products to Russia. The objective of the scheme is to develop export markets for South African products and services and to recruit new foreign direct investment into the country.
