CAPE TOWN - The Eskom Expo is leading up to its International Science Fair (ISF) whereby school learners will battle it out to receive top prizes such as laptops, cash prizes and bursaries.
This follows the Eskom Expo for Young Scientists regional finals, which began in Johannesburg and Kimberley on 28 July and ran in all nine provinces until the end of August.
The expo, in its 37th year, is aimed at developing young scientists and innovators. It also aims to encourage them to pursue careers in the science, technology and other innovative fields.
The Eskom Expo for Young Scientists invited school learners from 30 regions across the country. These learners will battle it out to win one of 1000 places at the Eskom Expo International Science Fair (ISF).

The learners will not only be battling it out to attend the ISF but they will also contribute to improved scientific research. It also provides a platform for learners and teachers to develop their skills in scientific project work.
The Expo is endorsed by the Department of Public Enterprises, Department of Science and Technology, the Department of Basic Education and has also received recognition from the Presidency.
Learners present their scientific research work to a panel of judges, professionals, academics and scientists. The scientific research projects can be submitted in 26 categories ranging from Agricultural Sciences to Computer Science and Microbiology to name a few.
The much anticipated ISF is set to take place at the Birchwood Hotel and Conference Centre in Boksburg from 3-6 October. The grand prizes to be won include cash prizes, bursaries and the chance to represent South Africa at other notable international science fairs affiliated with the Eskom Expo.
