ANDREW Bonamour, the man behind an ambitious takeover of Avusa, could make a play for certain Independent Newspaper assets in the near future, he revealed yesterday.

“I would, through Avusa,” he said, although there would be certain competition issues.

“There is probably nothing stopping Avusa from buying certain titles,” said Bonamour, the chief executive of the Blackstar Group, an investment company

. “Avusa has to get on the right platform before it looks at what else it could do elsewhere.”

The South African and Australian operations of Irish group Independent News and Media (INM), which owns Business Report, could be put up for sale, according to a report from INM’s annual general meeting last Friday. Bonamour said Avusa could take 18 months to fix. – Asha Speckman
