Johannesburg - The government will announce tomorrow the sources of its R2.6 billion to cover the funding gap in university fees.

This was announced by Higher Education Minister Blade Nzimande in Parliament yesterday as he shed some light on an immediate solution to the shortfall.

While he did not give any indication on the sources for the R2.6bn, he ruled out the question of raising money from the skills levy as proposed by various stakeholders.

During the debate in the National Assembly, Nzimande said he had been working with Finance Minister Nhlanhla Nene to raise the money.

He said the final meeting would take place tomorrow with President Jacob Zuma.

Opposition parties called on the ANC government to root out corruption to raise money for students.
