Johannesburg - South Africa’s power utility said there is a high probability of managed power cuts on Tuesday night.

“There is a low to medium probability of load shedding today,” Johannesburg-based Eskom Holdings SOC Ltd said on its Twitter feed, using the local term for rolling blackouts.

“The probability increases to high for this evening.”

Eskom, which generates about 95 percent of South Africa’s electricity, is struggling to meet demand after it failed to adequately invest in generation in the 20 years following the country’s first democratic elections.

The company has rationed power for 11 days this month as part of plans to prevent a total collapse of the grid.
