Meet our potential deputy president, David Mabuza

CAPE TOWN - Take a look at the Deputy President of the African National Congress (ANC), David Mabuza who may well be the next Deputy president of SA.


1. Born in the Transvaal Province, Mabuza studied at the Mngwenya College of Education. He then went on to study at the University of South Africa and holds certificates in the Bachelor of Arts and Education.

2. Mabuza held various roles in the education sector. He started his career as a Secretary for Student Movement Organisation, the Azanian Students Organisation (AZASO). He then served as Chairperson of the National Education Union of South Africa (NEUSA) as well as Chairperson of the South African Democratic Teachers Union. He also taught at KaNgwane Department of Education and served as a Principle of Lungisani Secondary School.

3. His Provincial roles began in 1994 where he was Member of Executive Council (MEC) for Education in Mpumalanga. He then went on to serve as a regional Chairperson of the ANC.

4. His other titles include Deputy Chairperson of the ANC Mpumalanga Province, MEC for Road and Transport, chairperson of the ANC Mpumalanga and MEC for Agriculture and Land Administration.

5. He currently serves as the Premier of Mpumalanga.

6. He is married to Estate Agent for Pam Golding Property, Nonhlanhla Patience Mnisi and was formerly married to Ruth Funi Silinda.

7. Although not much is known about his private life, he is one of the candidates in opposition with Naledi Pandor and Lindiwe Sisulu who are possible candidates to become the next Deputy President of South Africa.
