Petrol price to increase by 41c/l

Johannesburg - The retail price of petrol will increase by 41 cents a litre on Wednesday, February 6, the department of energy announced.

The price of both grades of diesel (0.05% sulphur and 0.005% sulphur) are both set to increase by 17.80 cents a litre.

The wholesale price of illuminating paraffin is set to increase by 26 cents a litre and the single maximum national retail price of paraffin is set to increase by 34 cents a litre.

The maximum retail price of LPgas is set to incerase by 73 cents per kilogram.

“During the period under review, the average international product prices of petrol, diesel and illuminating paraffin increased. The average rand/US dollar exchange rate weakened when compared to the previous period.The average rand/US dollar exchange rate for the period 27 December, 2012 to 31 January, 2013 was 8.7629 compared to 8.6833 during the previous period. The weakening of the rand against the US dollar increased the contribution to the basic fuels price on petrol,diesel and illuminating paraffin by 6.4 cents a litre, 6.69 cents a litre and 6.74 cents a litre respectively,” the department of energy said in a statement. - Staff reporter
