ANC deputy president Cyril Ramaphosa would not seek re-election to SABMiller’s board of directors, the company said yesterday. This is in line with Ramaphosa’s undertaking last December in Mangaung that he would review his role in the companies he was involved with. SABMiller said Ramaphosa had been an independent non-executive director since March 1999 and would retire from the board at the annual general meeting in July. The company said it had appointed Guy Elliott as an independent non-executive director with effect from July 1. He has been the chief financial officer of Rio Tinto since 2002. SABMiller said Elliott would step down from that position on April 18 but would continue as a senior executive director there until the end of this year. – Wiseman Khuzwayo
