Johannesburg - The SA Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Sacci) on Friday accepted the challenge by ANC secretary general Gwede Mantashe to grow South Africa into an inclusive society.

“Sacci will work with the office of the ANC secretary general towards a series of constructive engagements on improving the domestic economic climate and building a more inclusive economy,” Sacci CEO Neren Rau said in a statement.

Mantashe spoke at a dinner hosted by Sacci on Thursday night where he said black people were denied rights to participate in the economy, and transformation should open opportunities for them.

“Where the state is in charge, there is progress. 1/8However 3/8 where the private sector is concerned, transformation is too slow,” Mantashe said at the event.

Rau said the engagement with Mantashe formed an important part of its continued engagement with government leaders and civil society to strengthen ties.

“Mr Mantashe opened the discussion by explaining that the core goal of the ANC in government is to transform South Africa into a confident and prosperous society,” said Rau.

“In this way, Sacci and the business community in general can work with government to achieve the goal of creating a more inclusive society.”
