Business Day announced the appointment of its first black editor, Songezo Zibi, yesterday to take over from publisher Peter Bruce on May 1 .
Zibi, who has spent less than a year at BDFM as a senior associate editor at the Financial Mail, has more than 15 years experience as a public relations practitioner at Volkswagen South Africa and eight years as a corporate affairs executive at Xstrata. He served on the executive committee of the National Business Initiative and is a public commentator.
Speaking on Radio 702 last night, Zibi predicted that newspaper publishing might be a forgotten practice in the next 20 years. “The problem now is lack of sufficient wi-fi availability. The day that changes, the guy who will have tuned to that technology will be ahead of the pack.”
Bruce steps down after 13 years, but stays editor-in-chief.
