CALIFORNIA - Facebook has reintroduced the standalone app 'Events', which is now called Local.

According to data from market research firm App Annie, last year, when Facebook introduced Events, the app was not successful and it dropped out of the most-downloaded iOS apps just after a few days when launching.

The newly reintroduced app Facebook Local, combines events and places to a single search engine powered by Facebook’s 70 million business pages plus reviews and  check-ins made by friends.

The apps home page shows shortcuts to see nearby restaurants, attractions and more. A calendar appears to show your day’s events, a trending events feed, guides to music events, nightlife, art, and other happenings.

It also has an option to let you see everything going on other days. “The new app, Facebook Local, helps you easily find what to do, where to go, where to eat, or what you need — all recommended by the people you know and trust,” Aditya Koolwal, the product manager, said in a statement.

Local is now available on iOS and Android.
