DURBAN - Emma Stone at just 28 years old has now becomes the highest paid actress according to a list by Forbes of The World’s Highest Paid Actresses 2017.

The young Hollywood starlet banked $26 million pretax.

Her earnings from her movie musical film, La La Land, is the reason behind the bulk of her pay. Stone’s portrayal of a struggling actress and barista picked up rave reviews from the critics and the film collected $445.3 million at the global box office.

Stone has beaten other Hollywood big names like Jennifer Aniston who came in second with $25.5 million, thanks to her roles in films like The Yellow Bird. But Aniston makes most of her money from endorsing various brands like Emirate Airlines, Aveeno and Smartwater.

In December 2016, Aniston sold her stake Hair-care line Living Proof to Unilever which added to her bottom line.

Watch the trailer for the movie La La Land below:

Number three on the list was Jennifer Lawrence who was on the top of the list in 2015 with $52 million and in 2016 with $46 million because of her movie franchise the "Hunger Games" and American science fiction film "Passengers" . In 2017 Lawrence banked $24 million with her paychecks coming from her thriller film with Darren Aronofsky- "Mother!", her 2018 film "Red Sparrow" and her longstanding endorsement with Dior.

Melissa McCarthy (No.4; $18 million) and Mila Kunis (No.5; $15.5 million) completed the list’s top five.

Altogether the world’s top 10 highest paid actresses earned  $172.5 million between June 1, 2016, and June 1, 2017, before fees and taxes.

Earnings estimates are based on data from Box Office Mojo, IMDB, Nielsen and ComScore, as well as industry agents.

Emma Watson (No.6) is a newbie on the list after depositing her paycheck for Beauty and the Beast which made over a billion dollars at the box office. Amy Adams with $11.5 million, Julia Roberts and Cate Blanchett both at $12 million and Charlize Theron  who earned the same as Emma Watson rounded up top 10.
