Japan stocks finish 1% higher

Tokyo stocks closed 1.04 percent higher on Tuesday, after a heavy sell-off the previous day, as investors look to key talks aimed at tackling Europe's fiscal woes.

The Nikkei 225 index at the Tokyo Stock Exchange gained 86.37 points to close at 8,382.00, a day after it plunged to a six-month low of 8,295.63.

The broader Topix index of all first-section issues gained 1.83 percent, or 12.73 points, to 708.24. The index tumbled to its lowest level since December 1983 on Monday. - Sapa-AFP
