Johannesburg - Lesotho and South Africa will start the second phase of the Lesotho Highlands Water Project at the end of March, according to a statement from the landlocked kingdom’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Relations.
Being built at a cost of 15.5 billion rand, the program involves the construction of the Polihali Dam in the Mokhotlong district and the Kobong pumped storage hydro-electricity project, according to the statement.
South Africa’s Trans-Caledon Tunnel Authority is responsible for the storage and water transfer component, while the Lesotho Highlands Development Authority will implement the pump storage section.
The project is expected to be completed toward the end of 2018. - Bloomberg News
