US President Barack Obama designated Elisse Walter to lead the Securities and Exchange Commission on Monday after current chair Mary Schapiro announced she will step down next month.

Walter has served as an SEC commissioner since 2008; before that she was a senior official at the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority. - Sapa-AFP
