Zambia wanted to raise its annual maize crop to 4 million tons next year after increasing the number of small farmers receiving subsidised fertiliser, the Times of Zambia said yesterday. Maize output rose more than 30 percent this year to 3.3 million tons, the biggest harvest on record. Agriculture Minister Wylbur Simuusa was quoted as saying the number of subsidised small-scale farmers would be raised to 1 million from 900 000. – Reuters
