DURBAN - Android users will now have access to YouTube's dark theme after it rolled out for Apple users in March earlier this year.
According to 9to5Google, the feature began rolling out on Sunday evening after some YouTube users began to notice the dark theme automatically. Also, a pop-up notification would show up on the bottom of the screen noting the new feature.
If you do not want to make use of the new feature, there is an option to turn it off and remove the prompt.
If the feature has not automatically appear on your Android device you can turn it on by going to Settings, then click on General and you can find the dark theme toggle.
The dark theme is actually dark grey rather than black and the theme will be applied to the app's background, settings, search pages, and anything else that is white.
The dark theme will also be used on the compact, minimised video player and all tabs. YouTube channels will still keep their colourful app bars while the video player is black before it loads completely.
The video playing app is also testing an Explore feature according to Tom Leung, YouTube's director of management. The feature will assist users in easily find new channels and videos while browsing on mobile.
