London - Is checking Twitter the first thing you do when you open your eyes, and the last thing you do before you go to sleep?

Have you posted hundreds of pictures of your meals, drinks, pets and loved ones?

Well, fear not, your commitment to the microblogging site pales in comparison to that of a mother who appears to have named her new baby “Hashtag” – presumably in honour of Twitter.

A Facebook message, posted with a picture of a newborn baby, says simply: “Hashtag Jameson was born at 10 oclock last nite.”

“She weys 8pounds and I luv her so much.”

The picture which was, ironically, uploaded to Twitter’s rival over the weekend, hasn’t been verified, and it’s not clear whether the name is genuine, or a joke, or simply a mistake by the person typing the message.

Some have suggested it could be part of an elaborate marketing campaign.

The final explanation is, perhaps, the most bizarre of all – it could be genuine.

After all, last year a couple from Israel named their child “Like” after the famous Facebook button.

So, is Hashtag Jameson the real McCoy?
