CAPE TOWN – LG has officially announced the launch and full specifications of its new ThinkQ V40 device.

Featuring five cameras, the device also sports an improved 6.4-inch FullVision OLED display.

The device's chipset is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 and has 6GB of RAM and 64GB or 128GB of internal storage.

“The LG V40 ThinQ was designed with the main goal to deliver an uncompromised experience for users to create, consume and share high-quality content,” said Hwang Jeong-hwan, president of LG Electronics Mobile Communications Company said in a statement.

“The versatility of the camera and the proven V series platform makes the LG V40 ThinQ a serious option for customers looking for a premium smartphone that does it all.”

The company said the device will be available in 4 colours such as Aurora Black, Platinum Gray, Moroccan Blue and Carmine Red.

The 3 cameras found at the back of the device are:

  • Standard f/1.5 12-megapixel camera with 1.4μm pixels that are 40 percent larger than the G7.
  • Super-wide-angle f/1.9 16MP camera with 107-degree field of view. Identical to G7.
  • 12MP f/2.4 telephoto/portrait camera, that allows a 2x optical zoom compared to the regular lens.

To the camera, LG has added new lighting effects such as natural, studio, contour, stage and stage mono.

LG added a 3,300mAh battery to the V40 which is around 10 percent less than the Note 9. Photo: LG.

The device features three sensors and two additional software features such as:

A new triple preview feature will give users alive preview from all three cameras simultaneously, letting you quickly pick the right one for the shot you’re trying to get.

A triple shot feature captures all three angles with a single press of the shutter button then saves a GIF of the transition between them and also saves each individual shot.

LG said that for this device is the first LG phone to carry the Audio Tuned by Meridian label.

"The 32-bit Hi-Fi Quad DAC produces a balanced sound signature that comes extremely close to the quality of an original recording and Boombox Speaker doubles the bass of conventional smartphone speakers by utilizing the internal space of the device as a resonance chamber," said the company in a statement.
