Pretoria - She is rated among the top 10 Google trending South African women.

And yet Michelle Burger was not known until she took to the witness box at the Gauteng North High Court in Pretoria.

On Friday, Google Search used Google Trends to provide the web search trends to show which women were searched most in honour of Women’s Day.

Burger, who testified as a State witness at the trial of her former neighbour Oscar Pistorius, came in at second on the list.

The list also included Pistorius’s ex-girlfriend, Samantha Taylor, who took fifth spot and Reeva Steenkamp at sixth.

The late former Isidingo actress, Lesego Motsepe, came first on the list. Motsepe died earlier this year in her Joburg home.

A statement released on Friday by AfricaPractice Communications said South Africa was the second-top country worldwide to search for the term “Women’s Day”, outranked by India for the second year running.

“Looking through the lens of Google Search, we’ve used Google Trends, a tool that provides insight into web search trends, to showcase which women have captured the attention of South Africans in 2014 in honour of Women’s Day,” read the statement.

Boity Thulo also secured a place in the list after showing off her naked body for lifestyle magazine Marie Claire’s Naked Issue.

Lindiwe Mazibuko, the former DA parliamentary leader, appeared in all the categories including top trending women in 2014, most searched women in 2014, top trending SA women in 2014 and most searched SA female politicians in 2014.

Author Maya Angelou and singer Rihanna were listed among the most searched women in 2014.
