WATCH: First look at the new Samsung Galaxy S9 and S9+

JOHANNESBURG - Samsung on Sunday launched the new Samsung Galaxy S9 and S9+ at the Mobile World Conference (MWC) in Barcelona.

The new devices featured what the company is calls a "redesigned'" camera with a new Dual Aperture lens, Super Slow-mo video capabilities which allow you to create a personalised Augmented Reality (AR) Emoji. 

The AR Emoji feature creates emojis that look just like you. Use the front camera to take image, by using AR and it creates the emoji. You can also add facial expressions and voice cabilities to your Emoji.  

Additionally, you can share your emoji's with friends, regardless of which smartphones they use; it can also be shared via social platforms such as WhatsApp. 

“The way we use our smartphones has changed as communication and self-expressi has evolved,” said DJ Koh, president and Head of IT & Mobile Communications Division, Samsung Electronics.

 “With the Galaxy S9 and S9+, we have reimagined the smartphone camera. Not only do the Galaxy S9 and S9+ enable consumers to shoot great photos and videos anywhere, it’s a smartphone that’s designed to help them connect to others and express themselves in a way that’s unique and personal to them.”

The devices now support expandable memory of up to 400GB with a Micro SD Card and are equipped with the latest premium application processors.

The slow-motion video feature has the ability to capture video at 960 frames per second.

After capturing the Super Slow-mo video, users can select background music from 35 different options or add a tune from their favorite playlist.

A new added feature on the devices that it will monitor your heart rate and track how hard it is working and can monitor your blood pressure.  

The devices are made in four colours:  Midnight Black, Titanium Gray, Coral Blue and a new hue, Lilac Purple.

The devices are also Water and dust resistant.

The Galaxy S9 and S9+ both feature AKG stereo tuned speakers on both sides of the device. 

Bixby, The personal assistant made by Samsung also received a few upgrades. 

Bixby can translate images in real-time with AR. Bixby can record what you have eaten for the day straight into the Samsung Galaxy health app. 

The Galaxy S9 and S9+ will be available starting March 16, 2018 but both devices are available immediately for pre-order after the Unpacked event. 

SA pricing for the devices are at: S9 ( R15 499) and S9+ ( R17 999).
