CAPE TOWN - Uber announced that SA customers will now be able to tip their Uber driver right from the app.

The new feature will be shown to users at the end of the trip once they have rated it.

Users can either select an amount in the app or can create a custom amount to tip their driver.

“Improving the driving experience has been a key priority for us over the last year. We’re excited to roll out this new feature as a continuation of this effort and make the app work best for over 13 000 drivers in South Africa,” said general manager for Uber Sub-Saharan Africa, Alon Lits, in a statement.

Additionally, Uber added that tips will be sent directly to the driver-partner or courier and that it receives no service fees.

“We believe this will make a huge difference in the driver-partners lives and will ensure they continue to have a positive experience with the Uber app,” added Lits.

Users will need to have the latest version of the app and remember that the feature requires drivers to opt-in to be able to receive tips.

The feature is available for both Uber rides and Uber Eats deliveries.
