DURBAN - Buying gifts for family and friends during the festive period will affect your bank balance. However, there are some great tips to ensure that you do not spend all your money on Christmas presents. 

Here are some of the tips:

1. Get a discount/loyalty card

Stores such as Edgars and Woolworths offer special deals to customers who are a part of their respective loyalty programmes. 

Edgars allows customers to use their ThankU points against their purchases so the save money and Woolworths offer discounts on items as well as further discounts on items that are already on sale. Look at the store loylaty programmes and apply for the ones that best suit you. 

2. Take advantage of sales

During the festive period many stores have Christmas sales on their items to entice customers to buy from their respective stores. Closer to Christmas Day some stores will have a further discount on their items so keep an eye out for that too. 

3. Look for free shipping

If your are buying gifts online, look for free shipping options. Some sites offer customers free shipping if they buy for a certain amount on their site or free shipping with certain items.

4. Have a budget

Plan the amount of money that you will be spending during the festive period and stick to that budget. Having a budget will allow you to plan your spending as well as ensure that you still ahve money left over after buying your gifts.
