Transport Indaba looks at integrating transport and trade for Africa

PRETORIA - The three-day OR Tambo International Transport Indaba kick-starting tomorrow in Pretoria, will see African transport authorities deliberating on ways of linking transport and trade towards better global economic positioning.

Among the dignitaries to attend the session is Deputy Minister of Transport, Sindisiwe Chikunga, Cross-Border Road Transport Agency Board chairperson, Mosoeunyane Ramathe, the dti representatives, SADC representatives, SA academia on transport and international guests.

Some of the issues to be discussed during the Indaba include: the need for infrastructure development to support emerging markets in Africa; sustainable funding options for transport infrastructure; and infrastructure and intelligent transport systems.

Cross-Border Road Transport Agency’s is the host of this summit as mandated by government to consistently improve the flow of passenger and goods movements by road transport to ensure sustainable growth in the in the SADC region’s economy.

CBRTA says their core functional areas are: road transport inspectorate, facilitation and industry development, regulatory, research and advisory.
