CAPE TOWN - UberEATS is an online meal ordering and deliver service, which taps into Uber’s network of partner-drivers to deliver meals from restaurants.

The food delivery app has reached over 500,000 downloads since its launch in South Africa a year ago.

The riding-hailing company said in a statement on Wednesday that its 550 000 downloads so far in SA equated to some 10 000 downloads a week, Fin 24 reported.

“Delivery partners have driven almost 5 000 000 kms, which is the same distance to make 6 trips to the moon and back. Along the way, it has expanded the number of restaurants it has partnered with to over 1 200 restaurants across Cape Town and Gauteng,” the company told Fin 24.

Once users download the app, they can order things to eat from places such as KFC, Mcdonalds or any restuarnt provided on the app.

The service boasts an average delivery time of 30 minutes from order to drop off, and deliveries can be tracked in real-time.

UberEATS currently operates in Cape Town, Stellenbosch, Johannesburg and Pretoria.
