CAPE TOWN - The world's richest person, Jeff Bezos is expected to increase his already staggering fortune to a whopping R1.4 trillion.

The Amazon founder and CEO, Bezos is the first person anticipated to cross the R1.4 trillion threshold in a long time.

In 2017 alone, Bezos has jovially seen his fortune spike by R444 billion. This comes after the e-commerce site is seen to move away from the traditional e-commerce focus to adopting new frontiers such as groceries and entertainment.

Amazon has already reported a R628 billion revenue, up 34% from the same quarter a year ago.

At the beginning of the year, Bill Gates was expected to be the first "trillionaire".

Bezos has surpassed Gates when claiming the World's Richest person on October 27.

The climb is reportedly a result of Amazon's swift increase in shares.

"I took the less safe path to follow my passion and I'm proud of that choice", said Bezos.
