Cape Town - Excitement is in the air as Cape Town fans gear up to see UK singer and songwriter Ed Sheeran at Cape Town Stadium on Wednesday and Thursday night.

Sheeran performed in Johannesburg at the FNB Stadium on Saturday.

Security was tight following scores of muggings in December during a Global Citizen concert to celebrate Nelson Mandela’s centenary celebrations. Local singer Shekhinah is expected to be his opening act in South Africa.

Sheeran was in the meantime enjoying some cricket in the City of Gold and he was seen wearing a Proteas T-shirt on Sunday watching a game between South African and Sri Lanka. He impressed his fans even more when he came out in a Springbok jersey at FNB Stadium.

“We’re welcoming Ed Sheeran to the city, where he will perform two shows, filling our massive Cape Town Stadium.

“That’s big news for us - that his music holds enough interest for locals, especially on top of our own remarkable local music offerings - it’s fantastic that we’re diverse enough to welcome different kinds of artists,” Enver Duminy chief executive of Cape Town Tourism said.
