Cape Town - Guests at Sabi Sabi Earth Lodge, located in the Limpopo province, were in for a pleasant surprise when an elephant made its way onto one of the buildings at the lodge.

The Sabi Sabi Private Game Reserve, the remote lodge is 4 km from the R536 road and 8 km from Kruger National Park.

The footage which was caught by Latest Sightings - Greater Kruger on Facebook has already surpassed 30 000 views. It appears that the elephant climbed onto the roof to access the leaves on a tall tree as a light snack.

People who watched the clip, couldn't help but contain their amusement and amazement at the footage - and the durability of the roof.

Hannes Swanepoel: Strong roof

Tracey Jackson: Lol that's hilarious lucky the roof didn't collapse.

Deidre Du Plessis: How on earth does an elephant get up there?

Rouline Honiball: It looks like a sturdy structure, the elephant is very intelligent to know it can climb up there without it collapsing.

Cinda Kirkaldy: Fun and looks like the diners have no clue what is upstairs.
