Cape Town - The College of Magic is gearing up to return to its beloved listing, entertaining young and old with magical sets at the Artscape theatre in June.

The popular magic school and its colourful entourage are returning to the Mother City with a special edition of its annual Imagine! show.

According to the non-profit organisation, this year’s production will be directed by Santika Naidoo, a former College of Magic student and a member of its voluntary teaching staff, and a recent graduate from the UCT who debuted in 2019.

Naidoo, who is passionate about transforming the roles of women in the male-dominated magic industry, said she was excited to showcase to Capetonians the wonderful spread she and her team had been working hard to bring to life over the past few weeks.

“Audiences can expect several charming safety twists to the jaw-dropping illusions and captivating performances they have come to know and love, including masks magically being incorporated into the smaller cast’s costumes and fascinating additions to the enchanting props and sets.

“After a year of online shows and performances, I’m just looking forward to getting to work with the cast on an actual stage. I’m also very aware of the fact that the show has an incredible history and holds a lot of fond memories for past students and audiences.

“I hope that we can put on a stellar show and create a memorable experience for our new and returning audience members.”

While hoping to bring a reprieve to children and people suffering from pandemic fatigue, the acclaimed College of Magic is also celebrating 41 years of teaching children valuable life and social skills through the art of magic.

“Imagine! Is not just one of our major fund-raising events for the year. It means so much more to different people who participate, create and interact with us. It also presents our college students with the opportunity to perform in a professional environment.

“That’s why we’re calling on all magic fanatics, young and old. Those looking for something new and interesting to be a part of come through to the Artscape this winter and warm up alongside us, with laughter, love and shared joy. To experience the impossible safely with the Imagine! show, starting this Saturday, June 5,” said Naidoo.
