Cape Town - An early morning high-speed chase led to the arrest of a motorist in Blue Downs, Cape Town, on Wednesday morning. 

Another suspect escaped on foot after the car chase ended with the suspect crashing into a bus. 

"This morning at approximately 06:30, two Metro Police Officers were driving in the Blue Downs area," Metro Police spokesperson Zelda Martin.

"While driving along Rotterdam Road, the officers noticed a white Corsa Lite turning into the road at speed. They gave chase and tried to stop the vehicle, but it collided with a bus in Eersriv Way.

"The two occupants fled on foot, but officers managed to arrest the driver (30) who was found in possession of two firearms. 

"He was detained on charges of reckless and negligent driving, illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition, possession of a suspected stolen vehicle and pointing a firearm," Martin said.
