Cape Town - Closing arguments were heard on Tuesday in the Cameron Wilson trial, where the defence and state presented their arguments for Wilson’s sentencing.

Judge Chantel Fortuin handed down a guilty verdict on 13 of the 15 charges that Wilson faced last week Friday.

Wilson was found guilty of five counts of murder, four counts of attempted murder, two counts of assault and rape, one count of the possession of an illegal firearm and one count of the possession of illegal ammunition.

His defence lawyer, Mohamed Sidba argued that due to Wilson being loaded towards with psychopathic tendencies, he should not be penalised for his lack of remorse as that is one of the traits of that personality.

Sidba also argued on the factors such as his client’s absence of a previous criminal record, the youth of Wilson and his poor socio-economic background be taken into consideration

“Mr Wilson’s case is an extreme example of what is part and parcel of what appears on the Cape Flats,” Sidba said.

Sidba also added, how the court heard that “being labelled with a psychopathic behaviour, it doesn’t mean that people will commit violent acts.”

He used examples of CEO’s who too could have psychopathic personalities.

Sidba referenced that public opinion shouldn’t play a fact and that Wilson was very upset that he was referred to as monster in the media. Sidba explained that regardless of his action, there is merit in the fact that he is a human being.

“Every person by virtue of being human being has value.”

The State then went onto argue that Wilson should get the appropriate sentencing for each of the crimes that he had been found guilty on, with the minimum sentences ranging from 15 years to life sentences.

Wilson was arrested in September in connection with the murder of 18-year-old Lekita Moore in Valhalla Park while he was out on bail for the murder of Stacey Lee Mohale in April 2015.

Moore was stabbed 98 times and her mutilated, naked body was discovered in an open field in Tuna Road next to the 8ste Laan informal settlement.

Judge Fortuin said that she would pass sentencing on Thursday.
