PICS: Cape drivers rack up R62 500 in fines and impoundment fees

Cape Town - City Law Enforcement over the past few days recorded the following successes. 

27 arrests were executed and 2758 fines were issued. On November 18, officers impounded 2 vehicles in separate dumping incidents on the corners of Govan Mbeki and Swartklip roads in the Mandalay area. The drivers of these vehicles were caught dumping rubble on public open space, and were both fined.  

On November 21, officers also impounded another 2 vehicles for dumping offences - 1 at Baden Powell & Spine Roads and another one on Duinefontein Road in Philippi. On November 22 at Lentegeur Sports Field in Mitchells Plain, another driver was fined for dumping and his vehicle impounded. A total of 5 vehicles were impounded. 

The drivers' fines and impoundment fees amount to a combined total of R62 500.

On November 24 2018, Law Enforcement officers arrested 3 male suspects with known gang affiliations for attempting to steal copper cable from a City electrical box at Lookout Hill in Rocklands, Mitchells Plain. They were taken to Mitchells Plain SAPS and charged in terms of the Second Hand Goods Amendment Act.

Clifton beaches in Sea Point remain a problem and officers cracked down on alcohol on the beach. 100 bottles of alcohol was confiscated and 141 fines were issued in the general Sea Point area. 

Two 16-year-old youths were stabbed when two groups of visitors clashed over an argument about a female. Both victims were taken to Somerset hospital and are in a stable condition. Two knives were also confiscated.
