Cape Town - Police from Somerset West followed up on information they received about a diamond deal that was to take place at a local pub on Tuesday. Upon their arrival police found two men in possession of uncut diamonds. The men could not provide proof of ownership and were arrested for possession of unpolished diamonds.
The estimated street value of the stones is R400 000.
Two men aged 36-year-old and 56-year-old are expected to appear in court in the Somerset West on Friday, 26 November 2018. The circumstances surrounding the stones and the authenticity thereof are under investigation.
In a separate incident on Saturday, an Intelligence driven operation was conducted in conjunction with members of Rapid Rail National Response Team at a house in Villa Bianco Flat, Bellville led to the arrest of a 31-year-old man on charges of dealing in drugs.
Members received information about a premises where suspected dealing in narcotics occurred and acted swiftly. At the premises, members found a dagga laboratory, approximately 200grams of cocaine and chemicals used manufacture drugs which they seized. The estimated value of the high grade dagga and cocaine is estimated at R900 000.
A 31-year-old man was arrested and will appear in the Bellville Magistrates Court on Monday on charges of dealing in drugs.
The Western Cape Provincial Commissioner Lt Gen KE Jula commended the members for their efforts to bring perpetrators to justice and the community for their involvement in the fight against the drug trade.
