Cape Town - A fairly new non-profit organisation said it has a plethora of ideas for community enrichment programmes in struggling communities, however it is in need of assistance to see these implemented.
Together We Can chairperson and Wynberg resident Michelle Elaine Lincoln said the organisation found its footing amid the Covid-19 pandemic and aims to provide upliftment and empowering programs for women, children and seniors.
“So the main goal is to reach and assist women who suffer abuse in different areas of their lives, for example single mothers who struggle daily and who need help and guidance,” said Lincoln.
Together We Can targets areas in Ocean View, Parkwood, Capricorn, Wynberg and Mitchells Plain, with the hope of extending its reach.
“For the children, we are looking into having them at youth centres to enjoy some fun activities such as a games day, dancing competitions and singing contests. We aim to let them enjoy stress-free days and enjoy their childhoods without worry, even if it's for a day or two a month,” said Lincoln.
The team is preparing for its next big event to be held next month for women in Mitchells Plain and a programme for 300 children in Cafda and Parkwood, respectively.
“We need assistance in making this a success. Everybody who can make a difference in other people's lives, now is the time to step up and show kindness.”
Together We Can vice-chairperson Flory Kabemba said the needs of these communities have risen, and especially due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
“That is where we come in as an NPO with our little help to put a smile on these children's faces, encouraging them to be useful to the society and also putting smiles on these women’s faces and telling them that it is never too late, that they must not lose hope.
“Even though we can't finish or solve all their problems, we can teach some of them some useful skills that can enable them to put bread on the table, like netting skills.”
