Three arrested in Manenberg for guns, drugs

Cape Town - Three men were arrested during stop-and-search operations in Manenberg, Cape Town.

They are due to appear in the Athlone Magistrate's Court on charges relating to the possession of illegal firearms and ammunition, as well as drugs.

"In a mission to prevent and combat possession of illegal firearms in Manenberg as it threatens the safety and security of the community, members arrested three men aged, 21 and 28 in unrelated incidents during stop-and-search operations they conducted in various parts of the area," police spokesperson Sinathi Joni said. 

"A 21-year-old man was arrested in possession of 9mm pistol loaded with eight live rounds of ammunition in Thames Avenue. A second 21-year-old man was found in possession of a 9mm pistol with five live rounds of ammunition in Venster Street. 

"A search warrant executed at Beatrix Court resulted in the arrest of a 28-year-old man in possession of 34 half mandrax tablets and 15 live 9mm rounds of ammunition. 

"All three suspects are to appear at the Athlone Magistrate’s Court to face separate charges of possession of an illegal firearm and ammunition as well as illegal possession of drugs respectively," Joni said.

"Anyone with information regarding any illegal activity taking place in their area is kindly encouraged to contact the closest police station or Crime Stop at 08600 10111. All information exchanged will be treated with high confidentiality," Joni said.
