Cape Town – Three buildings were gutted in a fire in Killarney Gardens on Saturday night.

The City’s Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson, Jermaine Carelse, said the rescue services were alerted to the fire at the buildings, all on the same premises of Starflex Plastics, in Lauda Road, at 10.13pm.

“The first arriving officer from Milnerton reported that the fire was spreading to adjacent buildings and requested more resources. In total, 13 fire fighting appliances and 52 staff members managed to contain and extinguish the fire just after 4am,” he said.

Carelse said there were no injuries reported and the cause of the fire was still unknown.

Meanwhile, police are looking for assistance in locating Sizwe Bebula as part of an ongoing investigation into the murder of a former Grabouw school principal, Zameka Mfubesi.

Police spokesperson Novela Potelwa said detectives believe he holds key information that could assist their investigation, which is at an advanced stage. Mfubesi, who was school principal at Umyezo Wama Apile High School, was shot and killed on the N2 near the Grabouw turn-off on September 18.

Anyone with information on the whereabouts of Bebula is urged to contact Colonel Mathentamo of Organised Crime Detectives on 071 182 2354 or 083 498 8380.

In two unrelated incidents, two suspects were arrested for the possession of illegal firearms. A suspect in his 20s was arrested in Lingelethu West for being in possession of a 9mm Glock pistol and one round of ammunition, while a 35-year-old suspect was arrested in Hex Crescent, Manenberg, for being in possession of a 9mm pistol.

Three suspects are expected to appear in court today after being arrested for the possession of a stolen vehicle and drugs in Cape Town.

Novela said the police stopped the stolen vehicle on the N1 towards Worcester and searched another vehicle that was was being driven in tandem with the stolen one and found drugs. A total of 973 mandrax tablets were discovered.
