Three children die in informal structure blaze

Cape Town - A girl and two boys were killed in a fire in an informal settlement in Brown's Farm, Philippi on Monday night.

The City of Cape Town's Fire and Rescue Service said it responded to a fire shortly after 9pm, dispatching two fire engines, a water tanker, and a rescue vehicle. 

Fourteen firefighters in total responded to the fire.

"The City's Fire and Rescue Service responded to an informal structural Fire at 21:18 last night in Dimbaza Street, Browns Farm," the City of Cape Town's Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson Theo Layne said.

"Four informal structures were destroyed in the fire," he said.

Three children lost their lives. Their ages remain unknown. 

"Two male minors and one female minor sustained fatal burns. Their ages are unknown," Layne said.

"No other injuries were reported. The cause of the fire is undetermined. The incident has been handed over to SAPS for their investigation."
