Cape Town - Local car clubs will roll up at Westgate Mall on Sunday to help a little girl recover from an eye injury.

Reona-Leigh Daniels, seven, a star pupil at Harvester Primary in Westridge, Mitchell’s Plain, poked her eye with an Alice band, causing extensive injuries, resulting in several surgeries.

Her father, Marco, 36, says ever since the freak accident, the family has been struggling to cover her medical bills.

“She was sitting at the mirror one day and brushing her hair. I remember she brushed it all back and then put her Alice band on and accidentally poked her eye and scratched the top layer of her eye. She was in pain and has undergone three surgeries to fix the damage,” Marco says.

He says recently doctors removed the cornea of her eye and placed a ball behind it so it can heal.

Surgery

“They closed it up and she

cannot use it. It is so she can heal and then she will need another surgery to have it all fixed.”

Marco, who works for a private disaster management company, is the breadwinner and cares for his wife, Candice, and their three daughters.

“The costs are in the range of R20 000 and with raising three girls it is very tough so we are grateful to the car clubs that are gathering support for us.”

At noon on Sunday, the car clubs will meet at Westgate Mall to host a Park Off. People can make donations to the family while checking out some cool rides and sound systems.

Among those participating are Opel Squad LTD, Cape Polo Crew, Dub Familia, Opel Junkies and many more.
