Cape Town - Young people from Athlone and Hanover Park gathered for their graduation ceremony at Turfhall Primary School (TPS), where they had attended lectures to qualify for their National Certificate in Building and Civil Construction from Pinpoint Health and Safety.

Build A Way Construction was appointed by Pinpoint Health and Safety to deliver this training course in the local community and to assist young people with skills and knowledge that would make them more employable in the construction sector.

TPS currently has a new school building under construction, which is a pilot project for information and technology by the provincial department.

Provincial Department of Transport and Public Works project leader Clive Truter congratulated the graduates on their achievement and implored them to continue optimising on all the opportunities offered to them.

Pinpoint Health and Safety graduates from Athlone and Hanover Park gathered for their graduation ceremony at Turfhall Primary School.

Pinpoint Health and Safety chief operating officer Mareldiah Booley said even though a lot of graduates had not completed matric, this training was a step in the right direction as it put them on track to gain employment and other opportunities.

“All the graduates live within a 5km radius from here because we make sure that we recruit learners from the local community. As our motto states, we strive to make the unemployed employable, so this is part of our contribution to them and their communities,” said Booley.

Graduate Ruzaydah van Wyk said as an unemployed matriculant she took the opportunity to further equip herself for the job market and to learn more about different careers she could pursue.

Another graduate, Junaid Williams said he was grateful to have participated in the course because its units on health and safety and Pinpoint’s overall assistance had helped him land his new job.
